“If you wouldn’t eat it, don’t put it on your skin.” –Jane Iredal.
Our products are LOADED with chemicals. And living in the US only makes things worse. The EU has banned over 1,300 chemicals from products, while the FDA has only banned 11. Sigh.
After discovering the products I used (Ponds, Neutrogina, CeraVe, Cetaphil, and Olay) all contained ingredients that are “possible carcinogens” I completely switched all my skincare products over to non-toxic. The best part? I was able to find inexpensive brands!
Non-toxic skincare routine:
This does a great job of getting my makeup off, but I also use a makeup remover towel to take my eye makeup off. They also have a brighening cleanser and a rejuvinating cleanser. No parabans, dyes or chemicals to worry about here.
Exfoliator: Alba Botanica ACNEdote Face & Body Scrub
I love this product line because it helps fight acne. I use the face and body scrub in the shower. It contains Salicyclic acid which comes from Willow Bark extract and it makes any breakouts dissapear quick.
Toner: Acure Radically Rejuvenating Facial Toner
I use a toner to balance the pH in my skin. It has rose and red tea in it and I feel like a goddess when I close my eyes and spray the mist onto my face each night.
Vitamin C Serum: Best Vitamin C Serum and Mad Hippie Vitamin C Serum with Konjac Root, Hyaluronic Acid, and Ferulic Acid
I do my facial routine twice a day and I finish with this brightening cream. They do have a mattifying one which is great for oily skin. I bought my mom their anti-aging day and night cream set for Mother's Day and she loves it. I’m going to switch over to the anti-aging one soon because even though I’m only 23, it’s much easier to prevent wrinkles than to make them go away!!!
Are you noticing a trend here? Yeah, lots of Acure products. I promise they aren’t paying me to promote their company (although if you’re reading this Acure, help a broke girl out!) I simply use Acure for most of my products because it’s a 0 out of 10 on the toxin scale and its CHEAP <3
For Acne-Prone Skin: La Roche-Posay Effaclar Dermatological Acne Treatment System
I’ll give a little disclamer here by saying this product isn’t as perfectly clean as the others on this list but it’s the cleansest acne fighting product (that actually works) that I have yet to find. Whenever I'm dealing with a breakout I use this acne system my blemishes are gone within two days. I'm a big fan of the spot treatment so I use that almost nightly on any blemishes.
Developing a skincare regimen is basically the first sign of becoming an adult. Since practicing this nightly routine I’ve seen my skin transform from cranky to happy—something I’ve dreamed about since I was 14. I urge you to check your products, throw out the St. Ives Apricot Scrub and Neutrogena Cleanser and develop your own nightly ritual of giving your face some non-toxic love.
